Top 5 Pregnancy Must Haves

I have had the absolute joy of experiencing three pretty straight forward pregnancies that resulted in my three beautiful children. I could go into loads of details of everything I found useful during these pregnancies but I thought I’d narrow it down to my Top 5 MUST HAVES that made pregnancy that little bit more comfortable!

Everything I have mentioned below are things that I actually bought (from Amazon) and used myself. I will include links to similar items from both the UK and US Amazon sites where I can 🙂

Bra Extenders

It seems like such a small thing to be a ‘must have’ but it makes a huge difference. I bought myself a couple of maternity nursing bras as my ribcage started to expand due to growing babies, however towards the end of my pregnancies they were getting tight. Rather than buy more maternity bras (which let’s be honest are expensive and ugly) I bought these bra extenders to get me through those last few weeks!

Pregnancy Pillow

This is a pretty obvious one but there are so many options! I personally found the U shaped pillow to be the best and here’s why… I predominantly sleep on my back, as you may or may not be aware “research suggests that, after 28 weeks, falling asleep on your back can double the risk of stillbirth. This may be to do with the flow of blood and oxygen to the baby.” (NHS) Because of this I didn’t just want a pillow that just supported my growing bump, but also one that helped prevent me from rolling onto my back during sleep. So I purchased my ‘nest’ - lovingly/begrudgingly named by my husband! It was super comfy and meant that I could roll/heave myself from one side to the other without moving the pillow at all, it kept me from lying on my back, and supported under my bump and between my knees.

Foam Mattress Topper

I struggled with pains in my hips during pregnancy. It wasn’t too bad during the day but at night when I was lying on one side or the other my hips would ache. Now our mattress isn’t particularly firm but I thought that adding a memory foam topper would increase my comfort levels during what little sleep I was getting (especially towards the end!) My husband was not interested at all in being included in this extra level of comfort, so I bought myself a single bed mattress topper to go on my side so I could live my best “princess and the pea” life!

Slip On Shoes

Having a pair of comfy shoes was such a great investment. Slip on ones make it even easier to take them on and off when you can no longer see your feet! The best ones I found, my “cloud shoes”, were Sketchers Go Walk Joy Sneakers. There are so many colour options, the soles of the shoes are super comfy, and the material is breathable so they’re versatile for the different seasons as well.

Loose Dungarees

I bought and was gratefully given maternity clothes. These loose dungarees though were by far the most worn item I had, I honestly should have bought more! What’s great about them is that as they don’t have a waistband, there’s nothing pressing on your stomach. They’re loose and fit oversized so they should last the whole pregnancy, mine did! And they’re great for post partum as well, comfy, flattering, easy to breastfeed in them. These, like the shoes, have loads of different colour options and you can add layers, or just wear with a vest top, making them versatile for seasons.

There are many more products that you can buy during pregnancy, these are just my personal Top 5. If you have any questions about anything I’ve mentioned, or something I haven’t, drop me a message and I’ll get back to you.
